The Minister of Education, Professor Ruquayyatu Rufai has appealed to members of the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) to call off its industrial action in the interest of Nigerian student
Speaking at a meeting with Vice-Chancellors of Universities in Abuja on Monday, Professor Rufai expressed optimism that issues of non-implementation of policies between the federal government and members of the union will be resolved amicably when both parties meet with members of the Senate committee on education on Tuesday.
The lecturers embarked on an indefinite strike a week ago over the failure of the federal government’s agreement reached years ago.
The Minister also warned Vice-Chancellors to desist from awarding honorary degrees to people who do not deserve it noting that the situation has become embarrassing.
At least 18 more people were injured when the two-storey City Light hotel came crashing down on Monday morning.
Police said it was not clear how many people were trapped under the debris at the hotel, located near Hyderabad.
Correspondents say such incidents are common in India and are often blamed on poor construction practices.
About 25 people were working at the hotel, located on a busy road in Secunderabad, when one of its kitchen walls collapsed, burying some of the employees, senior police official B Surender told the AFP news agency.
"The building was very old and the walls showed cracks, according to people working nearby," he added.
Last month, nine people were killed in two separate building collapses in the western city of Mumbai.
In April, 74 people were killed in another building collapse on the outskirts of Mumbai.

Commander of the STF, Major General Henry Ayoola, while speaking in Jos on the situation of the incident explained that the issue was not a case of ethnic crisis as insinuated, but rather a situation where some gunmen came to attack residents of three communities.
According to the Army General, as soon as STF got the alert on the attack, the task force troop moved into the communities to bring the situation under control but they were attacked by the insurgents.
This led to a cross fire in which over a hundred of the attackers were killed, he explained
Commander of the STF assured that the affected communities are under surveillance as more troops have been deployed for intensive patrol of the areas to forestall any attack.
About 28 villagers were killed in the pre-dawn attack by suspected Fulani gunmen on Magama, Bongon and Karkashi villages of Langtang south local government area of Plateau state, north central Nigeria.
The Fulani herdsmen are alleged to have carried out the attack on the Taroh after hundreds of their cattle were stolen. Two villages in a nearby Fulani and Hausa community were subsequently burnt and the residents fled.
A call for the solicitation of funds has however been made to the Federal Government to support this facility to enable it delivery health care services in an affordable rate and most importantly to death from complicated heart ailments among Nigerians.
The 5-man team led by head of cardiology Tri State Cardiovascular Institute in Delaware were the 1st set of experts to use the Catheterisation lab ( cath lab) which was installed through a Public Private Partnership arrangement at the UCH precisely a year ago.
The defining moment finally arrived and 9 patients were slated for the heart procedure known as intervention cardiology where operations were done without opening up the patients.
In record time, complex heart problems were corrected with all the patients leaving the operating table alive, well and ready to go back home in hours.
Some of the lucky patients who spoke exclusively to Channels Television hours after their procedure could not hide their astonishment at the speed and recover rate of the procedure, hence a nod of appreciation at signs of healthcare improvement in the country.
The leader of the team of cardiac surgeons who came to the University College Hospital from Tri State Cardiovascular Centre, Delaware in the United States; Dr. Kamal Adeleke confirmed that his team will be back in August for another set of surgery and commence training for relevant surgeons and other personnel to handle the state of the art equipment at the UCH lab.

Nigerian pop star Wizkid has spoken out against his continuous impersonation by fraudsters. Star Boy, bugged by increasing complaints and reported incidents, says he’s worried and beyond scandalised, that some bandits would go to any length to perpetrate evil acts and defraud innocent fans and customers.
Wizkid spoke today in Lagos, while reacting to on-going investigations on recent discoveries and arrests.
“It’s unfair that fraudsters will take advantage of unsuspecting victims.” he said. ‘The culprit has been apprehended and all is being done to make sure such incidents don’t reoccur.” Wizkid added.
An EME impostor is currently in police custody. He was handed over to the police by his latest victim- Muyiwa. Muyiwa also known as ‘Origin’ started transactions with the impostor, only to discover he was being duped and quickly handed him over to the police.
Meanwhile, EME Chairman Banky W who has himself been a victim of impersonation, says the label is putting all structures in place, while working with relevant authorities to make sure the trend is put to a stop.
Fake names, phone numbers and bank accounts have been set up to carry out such fraudulent activities. Some of the fake accounts these impostors use include “Bankole Wellington Banky W” on Facebook, Bankyw82@yahoo.com, email@example.com, firstname.lastname@example.org, email@example.com. The only authorised contact for EME is firstname.lastname@example.org
“Impersonating artists and record labels is apparently the new 419. This is not a unique problem to EME or it’s acts, but a serious challenge to most major labels/artists as well as the fans and event organizers. We’ve done the best we can to streamline our processes so that anyone, anywhere can contact us at Bookings@empirematesentertainment.com or at +234 818 000 0000 and know that they have right information.” Banky says.
“It saddens us to know that crooks still try to take advantage of our fans and supporters but we are doing all we can to put the right info out and we hope that everyone takes note, so as not to fall into their traps.” He adds.
Wizkid does not take bookings or accept engagement payments into his account. He can only be booked through EME and/or his manager Godwin Tom.
The label says the Police will still apprehend more fraudsters.
They have been receiving so much great feed back on the track that they have decided to drop the visual for it.

Academic activities may be paralyzed on university campuses nationwide as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared indefinite strike action to compel the Federal Government to implement the agreement reached with the union in October 2009.
Indications to this emerged at the University of Ibadan when the academic staff of the university received a text message which reads “Good morning, this is to officially inform you that ASUU has declared a total, comprehensive and indefinite STRIKE from Monday, July 1, 2013. Await further briefing.
Immediately the text was received, academic staff who had been expectant, praised the decision of the National Executive Council (NEC) on the decision to proceed on strike to improve the condition of the nation’s universities and improve quality of service delivery.
The NEC of ASUU, which concluded its meeting at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, was said to have considered the state of implementation at the universities and concluded that the Federal Government had not been faithful in implementing the agreements substantially.
Although, ASUU is to officially address a world press conference today, sources at the NEC said the decision to proceed on strike included failure of the Federal Government to meet the funding requirements for revitalisation of Nigerian universities; progressive increase of annual budgetary allocation to education to 26 per cent between 2009 and 2020, earned allowances, and setting up of research and development units by companies operating in Nigeria and teaching and research equipment provision to laboratories and classrooms.
According to the source, ASUU took the decision after “observing all possible means of making government to implement the agreement yielded no results.”
Meanwhile, immediately the text message circulated, some lecturers at the Premier University who were slated for lectures did not go while students waited in vain.
The University of Ibadan undergraduate resumed the second semester last week leaving the students to groan with the latest development.

I am loving this one, check it out
With his debut single “Slow Down” already climbing charts across Nigeria, Trybe Record’s Sojay returns for another smash hit with his latest lust-fueled lovers’ anthem “I Want You”. The critically acclaimed “Best Male Vocalist in Africa” reaches notes reminiscent of international stars like Usher, Justin Timberlake, Miguel and Robin Thicke as he croons falsetto-laced verses over production by his label mate, K9. Sliding between piano keys sprinkled on top of a rich bass line, Sojay again separates himself from his peers as one of the premiere vocalists in Africa.
After making a name for himself in the Nigerian Music Industry with hits like ‘Baby No Time” which features American singer, Maino and ‘What I Like’ which were widely received by music loving Nigerians and on the airwaves across the country, AKAS decices to come through yet again with this smooth melody, titled EREKERE which is sure to impress any listener upon first listen.

How the thing go’ is an up tempo song able to keep one moving to its beats on the dance floor. “She go say I be Lady” is the recurring voice Fela sample in the song ‘Lady’. Great song with a great afro beat. Tai koon’s singing pattern is second to none, and he kills every song each time. Enjoy

50 Cent recently called into close friend and collaborator DJ Whoo Kid's Shade 45 radio show to discuss both Born Sinner and Yeezus.
Although Fifty's been avoiding the musical spotlight as of late, he did provide a rare guest hook on Cole's "New York Times," a Born Sinner bonus cut. Other than Kendrick Lamar's contribution on "Forbidden Fruit," he was the only other rapper who contributed vocals on Cole's project.
"I think that it's a good project," said 50. "He's producing his records while actually rapping on them like Kanye."
He didn't hesitate to compare the two or express his opinion on Yeezy's latest effort.
"I think they're both talented," he said. "Some of the choices on the new joint that Yeezy made, I wasn't into all that. I didn't know what kind of beat came off... [but] it was creative, man - it came out of nowhere with that. We'll see if people can adjust to it and really enjoy it or if it's too different."
50 also discussed his future in music and, and joked about re-recording his "officially unreleased but heavily bootlegged" debut album Power of the Dollar with producers such as Kanye, Timbaland and Cole
