175 Prisoners Escape in Ondo Prison Break

The Medium Security Prison of The Nigeria Prisons Service located in Olokuta, along Ondo Road Akure, Ondo State Capital has been broken into leading to the escape of about 175 inmates.

According to the Controller of Prisons in Ondo State, Tunde Olayiwola the attackers arrived at about 12:05 armed with guns and explosives which they used to break the prison wall, which led to the escape of the inmates.

It all started when gunmen, numbering about 30 at about 12:05 this morning, attacked the Medium Security Prison, Olokuta, Ondo Road, Akure, shooting sporadically, with bullets penetrating the fortified walls, gates, and floors.

They gained entrance into the prison by using explosives, which shook the foundations of the prison to blast the wall when they could not enter through the steel door at the main entrance.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of Ondo State Police Command, Wole Ogodo in an interview with newsmen in his office allayed the fears of the people of the State.

The Police image maker however noted that the attack has nothing to do with terrorists’ attack such as Boko Haram.

The State Police Commissioner Mr Patrick Dokumor and The State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Eyitayo Jegede were part of top public officials that visited the prison this morning to assess the situation, where bullets and the explosives the armed men used for the operation still littered the whole vicinity.

The prison which was built in 1989 was meant to accommodate 160 inmates.

US President Barack Obama blames The Influence Of Boko Haram On Bad Governance

Despite the protests against the visit of President Barrack Obama to South Africa by coalition of trade unions and civil society groups in the country, the proposed Town Hall Meeting with youths from African countries went ahead as scheduled.

President Obama blamed the failure of governments on their inability to train the youths in relevant fields.

He said “in terms of human capital and young people, I think the greatest investment any country can make, not just an African country, is educating it’s youth and providing them with the skill to compete in a highly technological, advanced world economy”.

He further said “countries that do not do that well, will not succeed”.

He also noted that countries with limited skill will have “problems” in drawing international businesses.

“This is a problem in the United State and not just a problem in Africa,” he added.

He said the U.S. is willing to collaborate with Nigeria to train teachers and incorporate technology in the educational system.

Obama said they have plans to work with all African countries to empower the youths depending on the    plan of the countries.

President Obama praised his government for making a considerable effort in tackling insecurity and curbing terror with the death of Osama Bin Laden but was quick to recognize the existence of Boko Haram in Nigeria.

He noted that “What is also true is that in some ways the problem has also metastasized, we have more regional terrorist organizations like Boko Haram in Nigeria espousing an extremist ideology, showing no regard for human life”.

To stop terrorism, Obama said “we have to build institutions a lot of what we talked about in terms of responsiveness, governance and democracy. Those things become defense mechanisms against terrorism, they are the most important defense against terrorism” he said.

Culture : History of Eyo Festival

History has it that the Eyo masquerade is not original to Lagos Island but was brought there sometimes around 1750 by two unnamed personalities from Ibefun and Ijebu communities in present day Ogun State. Owing to the fascinating appeal, they succeeded in introducing it as part of interment rites of passage for the departing Oba at that time, Oba Ado who is believed to have married one of their cousins, Olugbani.

Another version has it that the main deity Adamu Orisha originated from Ibefun just as Eyo masquerade came as a result of the need to protect the deity from the activities of hooligans who might seek to destroy or steal it.

Those who hold this view say that the traditional iconic staff of the masquerade known as Opambata, was invented as part of the regalia for the purpose of warding off undesirable elements.

Another dimension was added to the supposed origin of the masquerade and festival as a prominent indigene, Chief Adekunle Alli, opined, “Orisa Ogunran and Orisa Elegbaopopo were originally brought to Lagos from Benin by Chief Olorogunagan Asagbemi, and Chief Olorogunigbesule during the reign of Oba Ado of Lagos, over 350 years ago.”

Since time immemorial, the festival as depicted by the image of a masquerade in flowing white apparel has grown from a rural festivity to an internationally acclaimed event, attracting both local and international tourists, even though the frequency of such festivities vary depending on who the Oba considers worthy of having such play staged in his/her honour.

According to Alli who is an authority on local custom and history as they relate to people of Lagos Island, “The first Adamu Orisa play to be recorded was the one held by King Dosumu for his late father, King Akintoye, on February 20, 1854, six months after the death of the latter.”

Initially, five groups, different others have emerged, while participation in the play was restricted to family members of various individual Eyo groups of both the nuclear and extended family members, and any person or group of persons who have no filial link to any of the families can also join them for the purpose of the festival.

Man rapes UNILAG student & posts her nude photos on the internet #viewers discretion

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, Babajide Bashorun, for allegedly kidnapping a female undergraduate of the University of Lagos, Akoka, and raping her.
The police said Bashorun, a dog breeder, did not only rape his victim, he also took snapshot of her nudity, which he allegedly posted on the Internet.
A family source said, “Few days later, the pictures were all over the Internet. The picture had the name and surname of the girl, her university, age, department and course of study. People were stopping her on the campus to tell her they had seen her nude pictures on the Internet.

“The girl’s relations later saw the pictures and urged her parents to report the mater at Adeniji Adele Police Division.”
Policemen from the station subsequently arrested Bashorun.
A senior officer from the station, who pleaded anonymity, told our correspondent that the police were still on the trail of two undergraduates of UNILAG.
The duo, identified as Mayowa and Ademuyiwa, both 400 level Architecture students, were accused by the police of complicity in the crime.
Detectives from Adeniji Adele Police Station are working on the theory that the pictures were leaked to the Internet through the duo of Mayowa and Ademuyiwa.
Bashorun had said he only sent the snapshots of the girl to Mayowa, who in turn sent them to Ademuyiwa.
The dog breeder, who denied beating his victim, said they had been dating for long and he had spent a lot of money on her.
He said, “She is my girlfriend. I wanted to buy ipad for her. I was able to raise about N70,000. She came to my house to collect the money on that day.
“We had argument and I used floor mop to hit her on her back. I now took her pictures. I sent the pictures to my friend, but I didn’t tell him to post the pictures on internet.”
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ngozi Braide, confirmed the arrest of Bashorun.
She said, “We charged him to court yesterday (Tuesday) . We are still looking for his accomplices who are on the run”

Recruit More People Into Military To Fight Insurgency, Senate Urges Jonathan

The senate has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to direct the military  and security agencies to carry out urgent recruitment to increase the size of the forces as the insurgency has overstretched the security agencies

The decision was one of the recommendations from the report of investigations into the killings which the senate approved at plenary on Wednesday.
The senate also asked government at all levels to re-open all government institutions, health centres, and police stations shut down as a result of the activities of the Boko Haram sect in Baga border town, Borno state.
With echoes of international and national condemnation over the magnitude of the loss of lives and accusing fingers pointed at the military for its alleged role in the violence, the senate mandated its committees to investigate the incident.
The Chairman, Senate committee on defence, George Sekibo said the figure of casualties and loss of properties was exaggerated a claim some of the lawmakers challenged.
The number of casualties aside, lawmakers said government at all level must address some fundamental problems if Nigeria hopes to win the war against terrorism.

Edward Snowden has not entered Russia - Sergei Lavrov

Russia says it has had no involvement in the travel plans of fugitive US intelligence leaker Edward Snowden.

The exact whereabouts of Snowden, who flew to Moscow from Hong Kong on Sunday, are unclear.
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov insisted he had not crossed the Russian border

He criticized what he termed US attempts to blame Russia for his disappearance, saying they were "groundless and unacceptable".

Correspondents say Lavrov's comments suggest that Snowden remained air-side after landing at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport, and so has technically never entered Russian territory.

"We are in no way involved with either Snowden, his relations with US justice, nor to his movements around the world," Lavrov said.

"He chose his itinerary on his own. We learnt about it... from the media. He has not crossed the Russian border.

"We consider the attempts to accuse the Russian side of violating US laws, and practically of involvement in a plot, to be absolutely groundless and unacceptable."

The 30-year-old IT expert is wanted by the US for revealing to the media details of a secret government surveillance programme, which he obtained while working as a contractor for the National Security Agency (NSA).

He is charged with theft of government property, unauthorized communication of national defense information and willful communication of classified communications intelligence.

Snowden has applied for asylum in Ecuador. The US has revoked his passport.

Reuters news agency quotes a Moscow airport source as saying that Snowden arrived in Moscow from

Hong Kong on Sunday afternoon and was due to depart for the Cuban capital, Havana, the following day, but did not use the ticket.

The source said he was traveling with Sarah Harrison, a British legal researcher working for the anti-secrecy group Wiki leaks.

Meanwhile, China has also described US accusations that it facilitated the departure of fugitive Edward Snowden from Hong Kong as "groundless and unacceptable".

A foreign ministry spokeswoman said the Hong Kong government had handled the former US intelligence officer's case in accordance with the law.

The White House had criticized what it termed "a deliberate choice to release a fugitive despite a valid arrest warrant".

The Chinese government has expressed deep concern about Snowden's allegations that the US had hacked into networks in China.

Tuesday saw the official newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party praise Snowden for "tearing off Washington's sanctimonious mask".

In a strongly worded front-page commentary, the overseas edition of the People's Daily said: "Not only did the US authorities not give us an explanation and apology, it instead expressed dissatisfaction at the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region for handling things in accordance with law.

"In a sense, the United States has gone from a 'model of human rights' to 'an eavesdropper on personal privacy', the 'manipulator' of the centralized power over the international internet, and the mad 'invader' of other countries' networks."

Speaking during a visit to India, US Secretary of State John Kerry said it would be "deeply troubling" if it became clear that China had "willfully" allowed him to fly out of Hong Kong.

"There would be without any question some effect and impact on the relationship and consequences," he said.

He also called on Russia to "live by the standards of the law because that's in the interests of everybody".
Snowden was in hiding in Hong Kong when his leaks were first published.

OJB Said "He his having 8 to 10 weeks left to get the transplant done"

OJB Jezreel gave an interview to Encomium magazine yesterday Monday June 24th where he said he has about eight weeks left to get his operation done. Excerpts...
"When early diagnosis was done, it was just a case of renal failure. Right now, my two kidneys are gone. We are running dialysis at the moment. It started two years ago, but gradually depreciated. Most people tend to attribute kidney problem to drinking and smoking. I was told it doesn't have anything to do with that, because as much as I drink and smoke then, it was casual drinking. Maybe they offer you a bottle of drink and all that but not like I drink 15 bottles a day. I have a friend who has gone through this and he never drank or smoked.
"The whole process of the treatment from pre-process, transplanting process and post-transplanting will cost about $100, 000. In two years I have spent up to N5million which I have been trying to maintain myself. That is why it has been kept secret."
"God willing, I have like eight to ten weeks more to get the transplant done. It's strange, I still walk around a little. I can't eat much though. I trust God and Nigerians for their financial support"

"I’ve had sex with 370 men" Nigerian woman Seyi Kolade reveals

pm news
Approaching a man at a bar, Seyi Kolade had only one thing on her mind as she chatted with the stranger - sex. Within hours the pair were in bed together and she was delighted at how her evening had panned out.

And this was not a chance encounter, for Seyi was a sex addict and it was what she did almost every day for 13 years. Last night she said: “Sex addiction took hold of my life.”

Seyi, 35, was just 17 when she became dependent on sleeping with men. By 19 she'd had 40 partners and she says she has bedded a shocking total of 370 men.

Her dangerous addiction led her to a life of destruction - catching sexually transmitted infections, being evicted from her home and having two terminations.

By the age of 30, Seyi had hit rock bottom and needed help. Today, after attending numerous sex addiction meetings and 12-step programmes, Seyi has been celibate for four years and is helping others like her.

She explains says: “Sex addiction is something people associate with men, but it took hold of my life for more than 13 years.
“It was a craving and a fear of how I’d feel if I couldn’t get it.
“Once I did, it was a huge relief, like a weight was lifted.
“It’s like any addiction. It made me selfish, self-destructive and depressed but it was a cycle I couldn’t escape.”

She adds: “I lost my virginity when I was 13 with my first boyfriend.
“I was shocked when I fell pregnant. I gave birth when I was 14. It was a very difficult time.”
Social services arranged a nanny to look after her daughter, Sarah, from six weeks old.
Being a young mum scarred Seyi’s childhood. She says: “I moved out of home when I was 16 with Sarah and lived in a mother and baby unit. I felt terribly lonely. I craved affection, I was miserable.”

Moving into a housing association home at 17, Seyi met then-boyfriend Paul, 31.
It was now that she began to use sex to replace her feelings of loneliness.
She says: “When I started having sex with my boyfriend I thought it was the answer and would stop me feeling so lonely. But it wasn’t enough.”
Going to bars, Seyi, from Birmingham, cheated on Paul at least once a week with strangers or men she would meet regularly.

She says: “I needed sex and afterwards it was a relief. When I couldn’t have sex my confidence would plummet, I felt ugly and went into a spiral of upset and frustration, feeling unworthy and needing another fix as soon as possible.”
Seyi fell pregnant at 17 with son, Andrew. She says: “I told Paul it was his although there was some doubt in my mind. After I gave birth I tried to stay faithful. I wanted sex with him four to five times a day, but the attention from him wasn’t enough.
“When the pent-up sexual frustration became too much, I’d go elsewhere and get validation through sex.
“I cheated on him three times in six months, then fell pregnant again.”
Devastated and unable to look after another child, Seyi made the decision to have her baby terminated.
She says: “It wasn’t fair on the child to have them. I didn’t know whose baby it was so I didn’t tell Paul. I wanted our relationship to work but we split up when I was 19.”
Seyi’s heartbreak made her sex addiction go wild. She says: “The only cure for my loneliness was sex. I had five guys I could meet with for sex when I wanted and was also sleeping with strangers. I’d go to bars and easily pick one up. Being good in bed made me feel worthy.”
By 22 Seyi had caught chlamydia twice. Going out almost every night while her children were looked after by friends and family, all she could think about was sex.
She says: “Between the ages of 22 to 30, life was a blur, my addiction had taken over.
“I was sleeping with five to six men, or meeting strangers for sex at bars weekly. I fell pregnant again at 26. I felt I had no choice but to have a termination. I got drunk and had sex After the procedure.
“I don’t know how I managed to keep my job as a management consultant. I took lots of sick days when I craved sex and couldn’t face the office. I even slept with a colleague.
“I was evicted for not paying rent when I was 29 and had to send my children to live with my family.”

While staying with a friend Seyi saw the documentary The Secret, about the laws of attraction. She says: “I knew I had a problem but never stopped to think about being a sex addict. I realised I needed help.”

After quitting her job to concentrate on her recovery Seyi, then 31, went to an addiction meeting.
She says: “There were six others there and when I listened to their stories it cured my nerves. I didn’t stop craving sex straight away but cut down slowly.” Since August 2009 she has been celibate.
She says: “I’m so proud of myself. I’ve craved sex but the programme lets me know the trigger signs.
“I don’t plan on having sex any time soon. If the right guy comes along and I feel I’m in a stable, loving relationship, I’d feel safe to do it. I have my children back living with me and feel I’m no longer a sex addict.

“I’d hate to think where my life would be now if I hadn’t sought help.”
Despite her recovery, Seyi lives with the guilt of her addiction. She says: “I could have passed on STIs, I had two terminations and my kids didn’t have the attention they deserved.
“I’ve now trained as an inspirational speaker and happiness advocate. At workshops and seminars I can help others understand what sex addiction is, where it comes from and recovery.
“Being celibate has given me my life back. I want to help others do the same.”

Nigerians to start paying £3, 000 to enter the UK from November

According to a report by UK Daily Mail, visitors from 'high risk' countries in Africa and Asia will have to put up a £3,000 cash bond to enter Britain.
The money will be kept by the Government if visitors do not return home by the time their visas expire.
A pilot scheme, introduced by Home Secretary Theresa May, will target hundreds of people coming to Britain on six-month visit visas from India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Ghana, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The countries have been picked for their high number of visa applications and what the Government sees as relatively high levels of immigration abuse and fraud, reports the Sunday Times.

The bonds, to be introduced from November, will only apply to non-EU migrants, otherwise they would fall foul of European rights to free movement.

'This is the next step in making sure our immigration system is more selective, bringing down net migration from the hundreds of thousands to the tens of thousands while still welcoming the brightest and the best to Britain,' Mrs May told the Sunday Times.

'In the long run we’re interested in a system of bonds that deters overstaying and recovers costs if a foreign national has used our public services.'

A second scheme will cover countries such as Kenya, the newspaper reports, which are considered to be lower-risk because immigration officials have fewer doubts about migrants' plans to return home.

About 2.2million people are granted visas to enter Britain every year. Last year 296,000 people from India were granted six-month visas, as were 101,000 from Nigeria, 53,000 from Pakistan and 14,000 apiece from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

The Home Secretary plans to reduce annual net migration to under 100,000 by 2015

CAN faults Jonathan’s comment on killings

The Christian Association of Nigeria has faulted President Goodluck Jonathan’s stance on Boko Haram insurgency in the North, insisting that the sect has attacked and killed more Christians than Muslims.

The President of CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, through his Special Assistant, Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Kenny Ashaka, said it was difficult to believe that the President made such a statement, since it had become public knowledge that Christians had been at the receiving end of the terrorists’ attacks.

Oritsejafor challenged the authorities to provide figures of Muslims who had died as a result of Boko Haram attacks and compare it with the over 2,000 Christians that had been killed by the sect.

He said, “Well, I won’t want to believe that President Jonathan said that. But if we verify that he actually said that more Muslims had died in Boko Haram attacks than Christians, we will respond to him appropriately. But everybody knows that Boko Haram has been targeting Christians. Have you heard of any mosque that was either bombed or burnt by Boko Haram? I’ve only heard of Boko Haram attacking people coming out of the mosque. Those are targeted people – Muslims who are not sympathetic to Boko Haram.

“It is on record that more than 2,000 Christians have been killed by Boko Haram. Have you heard Islamic leader talking about Muslim casualties the way we have been shouting? Anybody saying that should bring out the figures of Muslims that have died in this crisis. I believe the onus of proof lies on the people propagating such misinformation.”

He added that the sect had made it clear from the outset that they were targeting security agents; some Muslims, who give them out; and Christians.

Also, Christians in the North has vented their anger on the President over his comment.

They said if the comment credited to the President were correct, then it was unfortunate that the President will utter such “unpardonable statement.”

The spokesman of CAN in the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Sunday Oibe, in a statement on Saturday in Kaduna, insisted that the statement was unfortunate and an attempt by the President to distort facts.

At the opening session of a meeting with the Honorary International Investor Council led by Baroness Lynda Chalker at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday, President Jonathan said the unfolding events in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states had confirmed his belief that religion was not the cause of the insurgencies in the country.

He attributed the insecurity in the country to the activities of “internationally-backed terror groups,” adding that “People thought the insurgency is about religious issues but the pattern of attacks shows clearly that it has nothing to do with religion. Just as there are threats to churches, so also are threats to mosques. They attack everywhere, killing Muslims and Christians. Even more Muslims have died in the conflict than Christians have

IG deploys policemen, helicopter in Zamfara over killings

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has deployed a mass of policemen in Zamfara State, following the killing of 48 persons by gunmen believed to be herdsmen.

Abubakar also ordered that a helicopter be permanently stationed in the North-West zone for aerial surveillance and to increase security coverage of the zone, which is witnessing violence and impunity by armed gangs.

It was learnt that the police found it difficult to secure the state on account of its massive land mass and the numerous villages that are separated by long distances.

This, it was learnt, made it difficult for police personnel to patrol the villages.

The Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, confirmed that a police helicopter would be stationed in the North-West zone to provide aerial surveillance for Zamfara and other states in the zone.

He said, “The police will station a helicopter in the zone to provide effective aerial surveillance for the states; the IG has issued an order to that effect and I’m sure such heinous crimes will be curbed with the deployment of the chopper and more personnel in Zamfara State.”

The deployment of policemen and a chopper followed the killing of people in Kizara village by gunmen on motorcycles last Tuesday.

Dozens of gunmen had laid siege to the village, firing indiscriminately for about five hours. They went house-to-house, shooting men dead, saying they were looking for vigilante men who had been threatening them.

Some of the gunmen also climbed a nearby hill and shot fleeing residents as well as people coming from neighbouring villages to offer support.

Among the 48 people killed were the village head, the chief imam, his deputy and leader of the vigilante group.

The gunmen also burnt many houses and shops before fleeing the village around 9am.

The attack happened just two days after police personnel stationed in the area were redeployed.

Zamfara State over the past two years had suffered violent attacks from rampaging gunmen starting with an
August 2011 attack in which 19 people were killed at Lingyado town.

In November 2012, 20 people were shot dead in Kabaro town. A month earlier, 27 were killed in Dangulbi, while in Birnin Magaji 15 were killed in February 2012.

Don Jazzy donates N1m to OJB, calling on other artistes to please do same

Don Jazzy has got to be the most generous Nigerian celebrity ever. We  found out that he has donated N1million to prolific music producer, OJB Jezreel. He did it quietly a few days back. And let's not forget the N2million he gave cancer patient Funmi Lawal last year and many things I hear he does very quietly. God bless him. Also, thanks to Ruggedman who has also donated to OJB.

Now calling on other artists to please do same. OJB Jezreel needs N15million for a kidney transplant in India. This guy has done so much for music in Nigeria and had helped so many Nigerian artists achieve success. Now is the time to give back.

Share This If You Are A Student-FG,Media Keeping Quiet About TheOngoing Strike With ASUP But We Are Not Keeping Quiet

Great Nigeria students! Greatest Nigeria students!! Greatest of the  Greatest Nigeria students!!!

The federal Government of Nigeria as kept quiet for the past 6weeks about the Ongoing strike with the Academic staff union of polytechnic (ASUP).

A strike that started due to Governments failure to release the white paper on the visitation to federal polytechnics

The president of ASUP noted: "The refusal of most State governments to implement the approved salary packages (CONPCASS) for their Polytechnics, Monotechnics and Colleges of Technologies and the 65 year retirement age is worrisome"

A country where the educational standard is very poor and staff salary is not in good order can not grow in due time.

As a student am using this medium to urge the government to please do what is right in the educational sector of this country, Nigeria students are tired of staying at home,we tired of staying idle without doing what we love to do.

Our schools are empty

Tai solarin said "knowledge is light" how can we acquire knowledge without good education.

We are the Student of this Great nation and we have a voice and we won't stop until it is heard!
